Criminal Minds is a crime drama series that premiered on the CBS Network on 22nd September 2005. The Criminal Minds Tv show has been created by Jeff Davis and is produced by The Mark Gordon Company together with ABC Studios and CBS Paramount Network Television. The series has completed three successful seasons and is currently running in it’s forth season. A total of seventy six episodes of the series have been aired till date. The third season was interrupted due to the strike by the Writers Guild and was cut short by at least two episodes.

The series revolves around a group of people working for the Behavior Analysis Unit of the FBI. Their job is to analyze the twisted minds of the most notorious criminals of the country and try to predict their next move before they can target another victim. The team focuses on identifying the things that motivate the criminals besides looking at the emotional causes that lead these people to carrying out the most hated crimes. Each member of the team brings in his/her different expertise and outlook towards crime to help analyze the next move of a criminal before he can commit another crime. The team works in co-ordination with the local police and FBI agents to prevent issues about jurisdiction and other problems from hindering their work.

The Behavior Analysis Unit is lead by family man Aaron Hotchner who has the ability to gain people’s trust and unlock their secrets. He is supported by Jason Gideon who is a very intelligent and academic person. Other members of the team include Emily Prentiss who is the daughter of an ambassador and is approved of by neither Aaron Hotchner nor Jason Gideon, besides Derek Morgan who is an expert about obsessional crimes. Then there is Dr. Spencer Reid who has very little social I.Q. but has the highest intellectual I.Q. in the team and is often misunderstood due to this fact. There is also the young unit liaison officer for the team Jennifer ‘JJ’ Jareau. To round up the team is the audio/visual technician of the team Penelope Garcia who is a computer whiz and can access any database with ease.

Criminal Minds has been able to maintain constantly high viwership rate throughout the first three seasons of its airing. Before the show went on a mid-season break for its fourth season, it recorded a drastic improvement in its viwership ratings making the show amongst the top ten most watched shows on television. The series has been nominated for four awards including a Primetime Emmy Award and has also won five other awards.
