Shemar Moore is the son of Marilyn Wilson, a business consultant and Sherrod Moore. He is an African American on his father’s side and an Irish and French-Canadian on his mother’s side. He lived with his mother, who taught mathematics in Bahrain and Denmark for several years. When his mother moved back to U.S., they lived in her hometown of Boston for some time before moving to Chico, California, in the late 1970’s. Here his mother worked at a clinic before she later moved to Palo Alto, California.

Moore studied at the Gunn High School, Palo Alto in California. He majored in communications while he studied at the Santa Clara University. He speaks the Dutch language very well, as it is his first language.

Moore played “Malcolm Winters” in ‘The Young and The Restless’ for several years. He hosted the syndicated version of ‘Soul Train’ from 1999 to 2003. He also has acted in the series ‘Birds of Prey’ from 2002 to 2003. He is best known for his role in ‘Criminal Minds’ in which he appears as “SSA Derek Morgan”.

Moore acted in the feature film ‘The Brothers’ in 2000. He has acted in another films like, ‘Motives’, along with Vivica Fox and Golden Brooks in 2004 , in ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ and in ‘The Seat Filler’.
Apart from this, we saw him in ‘Butter’, ‘How to Marry a Billionaire: A Christmas Tale’, ‘Chasing Alice’, ‘Reversible Errors’, ‘Greener’ and ‘Motives 2′.

Moore has also done modeling and often gives shirtless and erotic shots. ‘Men’s Fitness’ magazine has included him in its March 2009 issue.

Moore has earlier dated Halle Berry and Toni Braxton. He was arrested once, on suspicion of DUI, in June 2007.

Moore won the Daytime Emmy as the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for ‘The Young and The Restless’ in 2000. He was nominated for the same award as the Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for ‘The Young and the Restless’ in 1996 and 1997.

Moore won the Image Award for the Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series for ‘The Young and The Restless’ in 1998-2002, 2005 and 2006 and earned the nomination for the same in 1996 and 1997. He was also nominated as the Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ in 2006.

Moore was nominated as the Hottest Male Star in ‘The Young and the Restless’, for the Soap Opera Digest Award in 1998 and 1999.

He was also nominated for the Black Reel Award as the Best Actor, Independent Film for ‘Motives’ in 2005.

He was a nominee for the BET Comedy Award-2005 for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Theatrical Film for ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’.
