The second season began where the last season ended, in fact this was the continuation of the last episode of the season. The team is still trying to decode the clues given to them by the psychopath killer, if they have to save his next victim. In order to catch the killer Gideon decides to follow their normal way of investigating, instead of focusing on the personal aspects of the case. In order to turn victorious over the case, Reid stays behind to work on a personal connection, while one of the members of the team is fighting for his life. In the next episode, the case of a young boy is once again brought up where a child is brought up for sale by a child pornographer on an online auction. An FBI agent, who now is the head of the FBI’s Innocent Images Unit, requests Gideon and his team to save the child. Will the team be able to locate the whereabouts of the child and punish the gang involved in abusing children? In the next episode, the BAU team gets its next case when a family receives a CD that they think is of their daughter’s vacation but instead when they watch it turns out to be a video of her getting raped and beaten. The same night she is found dead under a bridge. The team learns that this is the second case of the same sort and they come to the conclusion that a group of two is responsible for the killing. In the next episode, a strange case comes up, which seemed very simple. It was a normal bank robbery, but it was simply not for money, because the robber, forces his hostages to undress before leaving the bank. The case also becomes the case of sexual assault, along with robbery. The team must solve the case and catch him before the robber crosses all his limits. On the other hand, Hotchner deals with personal issues with his wife and child. In the next episode, the BAU finds out that a serial rapist has suddenly stopped and there is no information about him from the past six weeks.

He starts attacking again, but the only difference is that earlier he targeted women from religious schools and now he has moved to women of different sect. The team must find out his real intentions. On the other hand, Elle is thinking of something and if she follows it that could be the end of her career with the BAU. In the next episode, the BAU team travels to Texas, in order to investigate the murders of children that have been taking place in the small Texas community. The team struggles to find the reason behind the killing. On the other hand, Elle is having troubles in settlement after being shot. Hotch gets worried about her when she stops answering calls and also misses her mandatory psychological evaluation. In the next episode, The BAU gets another case, where they will have to save the lives of three girls, after a man kidnaps three teenaged girls and put them in a cellar. He then tells them that only two of them will live and one must die, giving them the option of choosing, who will live and who will die.When the mother of one of the girls travels to Quantico to ask JJ to intervene with the FBI on the girls’ behalf, the BAU also gets involved in the case. In the next episode, one of the assassins of Seattle is influenced by a science fiction novel and inspired from that he is creating terror in the city by targeting centers of automated technology. The bomber is so influenced by the novel and is following the exact pattern that is followed in the novel. But one thing that is bothering the BAU is why the bomber chose certain sites for his target while leaving others. The BAU must solve the mystery if they want the city to have peace. In the next episode, a new agent, Emily Prentiss joins the team. Everyone thinks that she is in the team because she is the daughter of a high-powered diplomat and not because of her capabilities, but she is all set to prove it otherwise.
The next case that the team takes is of two serial killers who appear to be in competition with each other. The team then goes to St. Louis, in order to investigate the case. They set a trap in order to catch one killer and then take the help of media to get hold of the second one. In the next episode, for the next case, Gideon, Reid and Prentiss travel to Guantanamo Bay, where they interview the leader of a terror sleeper cell detained there after a chemical weapons dispersal device is discovered during a raid at a suspicious house. On the other hand, while Emily is working with Reid she has improved on her Arabic, which turns out helpful in the case.
In the next episode of the series, a man tries to take law in his hand and starts killing prostitutes and justifies his action by saying that it is his effort to clean the city and keep the prostitutes off the street. The team must find out the real reason behind the killing. On the other hand, we have a man who suddenly gets the urge of stabbing a woman. But he really doesn’t want to do that. So, in turn, he takes help from Reid who helps him understand his thoughts and also get out of them. In the next episode, while Margo is on leave, in order to visit her mother in Chicago and also celebrate her birthday, a young boy is murdered. The local police after investigating come to the conclusion that Derek is behind the murder and that he is also responsible for the killing that has taken place in the past. The BAU team is then called in order to investigate. While they are investigating, Hotchner questions Morgan and he gets really angry, which makes Hotchner believe that there is much more than what is being revealed. Will they be able to get everything out of Morgan? In the next episode, which is based on the case of a real serial killer, the team is called to the small town of Golconda, Nevada, where the team will have to face the most dangerous serial killer ever. The local authorities want to kill the killer, but Gideon wants to talk to him and find out the real reason.
While the team is investigating, why the killer always return to the same town year after year, Gideon tries to talk to the man. In the next episode, the team must find out a team of killers who not only kills people but also records the killing and then puts them on net. The killer actually has multiple personalities and the team must stop the killings. While the team is investigating the case one of the team members face a life threatening situation. In the next episode, it’s Reid who becomes the captive of a killer and the team must find out as early as possible the whereabouts of the killer. The team members are shocked to see a bound and drugged Reid. He, in an unconscious state of mind, is reminded of his troubled childhood.

In the next episode, when four young black women are found dead in a white New York suburb area, the BAU is called in to investigate the murder. On a superficial level it looks that it is case of race riot. But things turn out differently when they begin to investigate the killings. In the next episode, the team travels to Houston where a number of murders have taken place near construction sites and abandoned buildings. The murders that have taken place appears to be random, making the team believe that the killer could be a homeless person. How will they look for him? On the other hand, everyone in the team is feeling a change in Reid’s behavior. In the next episode, Gideon goes to New Orleans, after three bodies are found with their throats cut. When, no murders take place for quite some time everyone starts believing that the killer has been killed in Hurricane Katrina. But soon another body is found in the French Quarter, thus confirming that the killer is still alive. Will the team be able to catch the killer before he kills his next victim? In the next episode, a serial arsonist is killing upper-middle-class families, while they are asleep. The team is then called to investigate and find out the killer. The team finds out that all the people that the killer has killed are linked with each other through corporate development companies and the company has been accused of building on contaminated land. In the next episode, Prentiss’ mother asks the team to investigate the case of a Russian man who has been kidnapped for money. The victim’s daughter first proves to be a help of some kind, but as the case starts to unfold it becomes clear that the daughter herself is involved in the kidnapping. In the next episode, bodies of some missing people are discovered in a remote area. The BAU team is called to investigate the case. While the team is working on the case they also come to know that unsubs have been hunting humans for sport. The team must find out that the killer and who are unsubs (slang for Unknown Subject of an Investigation) that are hunting human beings. In the next episode, the team travels to Kansas City on the request of a local detective, where, out of the blue, homeless people have started to disappear from the streets. What exactly is going around in the city and who is behind these disappearances? In the last episode of the season, a very dangerous serial killer, Frank enters Gideon’s home and kills his friend. He also takes the list of people that Gideon has saved, which clearly indicates that he is going to harm those people. Gideon must race against time to find the killer before he harms anyone. Frank warns them that he will not stop his killings until and unless he gets his girlfriend Jane back. The team now must look for his girlfriend along with looking for Frank. On the other hand, Hotchner is called in for inspection from his seniors after which he might lose his position at the BAU.
